Biography The members of the Coal Harbour Sextet met each other at the Conservatory of Rotterdam, in a neighbourhood called Coolhaven. After having played with each other in a vast number of different groups, including the National Youth Jazz Orchestra in the Netherlands, the Sextet was founded.
Inspired by legends from the hard bop era, like Art Blakey, Horace Silver and Cannonball Adderley, the sextet started of with a mix of existing compositions and originals. The repertoire expanded in an impressive way. At this moment Coal Harbour offers three different musical programs:

InAFTER HOURSCoalHarbour works in collaboration with Deborah Carter, one of Holland's finest jazz singers.
With CROSSING THE CANAL, Coal Harbour strives for the common grounds between jazz and classical music. For this program a fine string quartet is added to the group.
Despite the different programs, the band is always able to offer a unique sound. Coal Harbour is recognizable by the warm sound of three horns, flourishing on the funding of a lively rhythm section.
